Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a Technical Artist to join our studio in Da Nang, working across VFX and animation for our Roblox titles, currently including a larger-scope production with an RPG lean.

In this role, you will create and implement visual effects and character animation directly in Roblox Studio, working within the platform's technical constraints to keep everything performant. You'll work closely with Game Designers, Programmers, and other Artists to make sure combat, abilities, and key gameplay moments feel impactful.

Key Responsibilities

  • VFX Creation: Design and implement real-time visual effects (particles, trails, beams) for combat, abilities, and environmental moments directly in Roblox Studio. Optimize VFX for performance across a range of devices, including mobile.

  • Animation & Rigging: Rig and animate all characters and creatures : idle, movement, combat, ability activations, using Roblox's animation tools and industry-standard software (Blender or Maya). You'll typically start from models built by our 3D Artist or other modelers, so this covers rigging and animation end to end, not asset creation itself. Ensure rigs and animations import cleanly into Roblox Studio and hold up across different rig types.

  • Cinematics: Build in-game cutscenes and cinematic sequences : camera work, staging, and timing, to support key story and gameplay moments, particularly for our RPG production.

  • Technical Pipeline: Build and maintain tools and workflows that make it easier for the wider art team to import, optimize, and iterate on VFX and animation assets. Enforce technical standards for poly count, texture size, and file organization.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Receive character and creature models from our 3D Artist, and own rigging, animation, and VFX from that point forward. Work closely with Game Designers to make sure VFX and animation timing reinforce game feel and feedback. Partner with Programmers to implement effects and animation triggers correctly in-game.

  • Quality Assurance: Playtest and review VFX and animations in context, catching issues with timing, scale, and performance before they reach players. Debug and resolve particle system or animation glitches as they come up.

Preferred Experience

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience across VFX, animation, or technical art, ideally on Roblox or another real-time game engine (Unity, Unreal, UEFN).

  • Hands-on experience with Roblox Studio's animation and particle systems; familiarity with Blender or Maya for asset creation and rigging.

  • Solid understanding of real-time VFX principles (particles, textures, flipbooks) and how to optimize them for performance.

  • Understanding of rigging and animation fundamentals : skeletons, IK, weight painting, and how they translate into Roblox's rig types.

  • Comfortable working within tight technical constraints (poly count, draw calls, mobile performance).

  • Experience with combat or action VFX (hit impacts, ability effects) is a strong plus given our current RPG production.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted pipelines is a big plus, for example, generative tools (Stable Diffusion, ComfyUI, ControlNet) for texture or concept exploration, or AI-assisted animation and motion-capture cleanup tools (e.g., Cascadeur, Move.ai). We're building more of this into our own workflows, with artists still owning and finishing the result.

  • Fluent in English (written & spoken); Vietnamese is a plus given daily collaboration with our Da Nang-based team.

  • A strong portfolio showing VFX and/or animation work — ideally with in-engine examples, not just renders.
